Sha’ Carri Richardson Left Off Olympic Team

Despite a push to shorten Sha’Carri Richardson’s suspension over a marijuana violation, the Olympic sprinter has been axed from the U.S. relay team, according to the governing body of the Tokyo Olympics.  A statement released Tuesday by the USA Track and Field committee reads, “While USATF fully agrees that the merit of the World Anti-Doping Agency rules related to THC should be reevaluated, it would be detrimental to the integrity of the U.S. Olympic Team trials for Track and Field if USATF amended its policies following competition, only weeks before the Olympic Games.”  Richardson, 21, was suspended for 30 days last week after she tested positive for marijuana following the U.S. Olympic Trials, making her ineligible to compete in the upcoming 100-meter event. She’s since apologized for the incident, blaming the transgression on the recent death of her mother. “I’m sorry I can’t be y’all Olympic Champ this year,” Richardson tweeted last Friday. “But I promise I’ll be your world champ next year.”  Isn’t alcohol worse than marijuana? Are athletes disqualified for drinking?
