Grandmother Kills Fiance Days Before the Wedding

by

You never know what really goes on behind closed doors. Last week, Bernice Johnson and James Watkins Jr., a seasoned couple, both in their late sixties, were planning an Easter Sunday wedding. But on Wednesday Bernice was being arrested for James’ murder.

65-year-old Bernice called the police and told them she shot Watkins during a fight. Bernice’s family believes their mother and grandmother shot her fiancé, 68, in self defense.

Her family members say Bernice was very excited about the wedding and she was a very loving person to her children, grandchildren and the people she chose to be around.

In an interview with Fox 13, Bernice’s son, Lavadius Nichols said:

“My mother was in a fight for her life, so it was either him or her. So I hate that it went the way that it went because it could have been nobody. Two people could have walked away from it. But everything doesn’t go as planned.

Instead of getting married on Sunday, Bernice spent the holiday in jail, with her family members praying for her release.

Her granddaughter also wanted to be sure to send this message to Watkins’ family.

Her bail was set for $250,00.

“My grandmother didn’t mean what she did. And please, if you can’t forgive her, forgive him. Because this wasn’t her problem. She didn’t do this intentionally
