The popular 2000 movie, Love and Basketball, is definitely a romantic drama classic. It was the very first role that introduced Sanaa Lathan to the world as she played Omar Epp’s high school sweetheart and next door neighbor.
Lathan sat down with CBS and enlightened us on what exactly that role meant for her. Contrary to popular belief, Lathan admitted she was in a miserable place while filming.
“I think Gina finally got to the point where she had to hire somebody. It’s almost like she hired me because she couldn’t find somebody else,” Lathan explained. “So there wasn’t a lot of joy, and there wasn’t a lot of trust in me. It was her baby! It was a big deal for her, and here I am and nobody knows me really.”
Lathan went on to explain that her and Gina Prince-Bythewood, the director of Love & Basketball, are actually good friends now.
