Over the past few months Gabourey Sidibe has posted several pictures of her much slimmer body, now she’s revealing that she had weight loss surgery to help reach her goal.
“My surgeon said they’d cut my stomach in half. This would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I’d want to eat healthier. I’ll take it! My lifelong relationship with food had to change,” she writes in her memoir, due out May 1.
The “Empire” star says that her decision to have the surgery had more to do with her health than her vanity as she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes prior to the procedure.
“I just didn’t want to worry. I truly didn’t want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes. I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes,” she told PEOPLE magazine.
Sidibe who took a break from dating has moved to Los Angeles and says that now that she is in a great place (mentally and physically), she wants to get back in the dating game.
“I looked around a good five months ago, and I realized: Every single person that I hang out with is either a gay man or a woman, and neither one of those people are gonna f— me. [Laughs] Or marry me. That’s the ultimate goal,” she says.
