Steve Harvey says that he’s pushing through all of the negativity that he received after meeting with President Donald Trump shortly after the election because of the bigger picture of helping others. The Smooth R&B 105.7 morning dude says that the purpose of the meeting was to get the Trump administration’s help in opening vision centers in African-American communities that will offer STEM programs for children and education programs for adults.
Harvey says that he’s in the final stages of closing the deal with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on the first vision center.
“I’ve been to HUD twice,” he said to the Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve met with Dr. Carson and we’re actually trying to get it started. We’ve had meetings, and now we’re just waiting on the final notes. We have several teams in place. Hopefully before the year goes out, we’ll be making the announcement about the first vision center.”
