Burberry Under Fire For Hoodie Designed With Noose Around Neck

First, the blackface sweater designed by Gucci caused quite the controversy about racism and inequality. But now, another high end designer, Burberry, is under fire for a hoodie designed with a noose around the neck. The hoodie premiered at a London Fashion Week show and was brought to light by the model, Liz Kennedy, who had to wear it. Liz took to Instagram to express her disgust with having to wear the design, as well as explain her discomfort with more than the noose but all the underlying symbolism it represented. Since then, Burberry’s Chief Executive Officer, Marco Gobbetti, released the following statement:

“We are deeply sorry for the distress caused by one of the products that featured in our A/W 2019 runway collection.” Adding that, the design was inspired by the marine theme that ran throughout the collection, it was insensitive and we made a mistake.”
