Alicia Keys explains how she grew to be more swaggy and confident

by

James BaileyAlicia Keys boldly rocks her natural hair and a soft makeup look on the April cover of Allure magazine. Inside, the multi-Grammy-winning singer reveals her constant battle to build her confidence while singing about love, loss and pain.

“In my creative process, I always start very insecure,” Keys tells Allure. “I’m like, ‘Is this right? How is this landing? Do I feel good about this?’ I have to live in that insecurity for a bit, and then, as time progresses, I get more confident. And I’m like, ‘You know what? I love this.’ Then I start to feel more swaggy and confident.”

Aliicia also said she’s enjoyed the “new experience” of working from home during the pandemic, between loving on her husband, Swizz Beatz, and homeschooling their kids.

“I’ve been traveling with music since I was 17 or 18. There’s really never been a time when I’ve just been still,” Keys explains. “It’s a new experience and it feels really, really, really good, in that sense of being still and solid with my family unit and being much more present.”

A few months ago, Alicia Keys embarked on another new experience by launching her self-care line, Keys Soulcare. It offers candles and skincare products, as well as ritual packages for you and your soulmate, inspiring others to take care of their mind, body and spirit.

“I want to learn and I want to share whatever it is that’s helped me become more centered,” Alicia declares. “I’ve never felt comfortable in my skin. I’ve never felt like I can depend on myself without having to check with 30 other people to make sure that my opinion is valid. I like the way that I feel right now, and it took quite a while to get to this place.”
