Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are known to throw over-the-top parties in honor of each others’ birthday, so it should come as no surprise that Keys threw a retro hip-hop 37th birthday party for her husband in his hometown of the Bronx, New York earlier this week.
“[Swizz Beatz] rolled up blindfolded,” a source tells the New York Post‘s Page Six, “and everyone yelled ‘Surprise!'”
The party began on the lower level of a loft space Monday night and concluded with a rooftop performance with rap legends like Doug E. Fresh, Kool G Rap and Slick Rick. “Alicia and Swizz were rapping all the lyrics,” the spy adds of the party, which featured celebrity guests NBA star Carmelo Anthony, media personality Angie Martinez, stylist Ty Hunter, and Beatz’s brother, André Leon King.
Alicia later took to Instagram to recap the festivities, posting a photo of herself starring at the unsuspecting birthday boy.
“The moment my baby said ‘I KNOW @therulernyc Slick Rick didn’t just walk through…. ‘And I said, ‘I’m just sayin, I’m the king of this birthday thing!!’ Keys wrote. ” [Thnks] to everyone who came out last night to celebrate MY King @therealswizzz and all the family and friends that created that real #originalhiphop love, peace & unity vibration!!!! #BX #legendary #onceinalifetime #happybirthdaybaby #lastnightwascraaazzzzyyyyy!!!!!!! #stillbuggin #history.”
