L-R: Common; ABC/Fred Watkins, Andra Day; Myriam SantosAndra Day and Common are standing up for something October 18 during the CMT Artists of the Year television special

The pair will perform their new collaboration, “Stand Up for Something,” along with country stars Lee Ann Womack and Little Big Town.

Common tells ABC Radio that working with Andra and hit-making songwriter Diane Warren on “Stand Up for Something” “was a perfect connection.”

“We all wanted to work with each other, and you know, we sharpen each other. Iron sharpens iron,” he adds.

Day is also expected to sing her hit track “Rise Up” with Little Big Town at the CMT special.

This year, in light of the hurricanes, California wildfires and Las Vegas shootings, the show will offers viewers a night of “hope and healing,” rather than the usual year-end celebration honoring country music’s top artists of the year.

Fans can tune in to watch the 90-minute telecast Wednesday, October 18 at 8 p.m. ET.
