Andra Day Is Excited and Honored to Perform During CMA Country Christmas TV Special

by

ABC/Mark LevineAndra Day has had many career firsts this year, including having her debut album, Cheers to the Fall, and one of it’s featured singles, “Rise Up,” nominated for Grammy awards and performing at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Now, the rising star is adding her performance of iconic Christmas carol “God Ye Merry Gentlemen” — with country music superstar Jennifer Nettles — on Monday’s CMA Country Christmas TV special to her resume.

“I was just surprised and pleasantly surprised, so it was a very easy yes,” Day explained to ABC Radio on being approached by Nettles to first record the track for the country singer’s holiday album, To Celebrate Christmas.

“So we came out to Nashville, we recorded the song and not too long after that she invited me to come perform the song with her on CMA Country Christmas and it’s just been kind of a whirlwind and I’m excited and honored to be here,” she added.

Andra also has a wish list of other country vocalists she would love to collaborate with, which includes Kelsea Ballerini and country music icon Loretta Lynn

“Kelsea Ballerini is definitely one of them because I just love her. We met the first time at the White House. She’s such a sweetheart. She’s an awesome person,” Andra states.

“But, also, Miss Loretta Lynn. If she would have me, then that would be fantastic,” she adds.

You can watch Andra Day performing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” with host Jennifer Nettles during the two-hour CMA Country Christmas premiere Monday, November 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
