by

ABC/Image Group LAAndra Day and Common have collaborated on the song “Stand Up for Something,” from the movie Marshall, and now Andra says she’s ready to break into acting, with some help from Oscar and Grammy award-winning rapper/actor.

“He’s coaching me right now,” she says of Common. “Yes, I will do acting in the future, definitely.”

While Day says she’s now looking forward to behind in front of the cameras, she tells ABC Radio that initially, she wanted to work behind-the-scenes.

“I think I was more interested in producing, and co-directing, and co-writing, and doing stuff like that,” she tells ABC Radio.

But now, after receiving two Grammy nominations for her debut album, Cheers to the Fall, Day is eager to get involved in all aspects of the movie business, and she’s grateful to have Common as her mentor.

“Eventually, I would like to play a few roles,” she says. “I enjoy movies so much and I am so passionate about them and so, I kinda want to be on all sides of the fence.”

“I want to create them, I want to be in them. I just have to get over my nerves. He’s helping me with this,” she laughs.

Day and Common will receive the Hollywood Song Award for “Stand Up For Something” at the 21st Annual Hollywood Film Awards on November 5 in Los Angeles.
