JB Lacroix/WireImage”Purple rain, purple rain!” A special screening and discussion titled “Purple Rain: Celebration,” took place in Beverly Hills, California Monday night — and none other than the movie’s leading lady, Apollonia Kotero, made a surprise appearance, says Billboard.
The event honored the cult classic 1984 romance drama Purple Rain, which famously starred the late music icon Prince and made Apollonia famous, albeit briefly.
Co-stars Jerome Benton and Jill Jones, the film’s producer, Robert Cavallo, and writer-directorAlbert Magnoli were also there, as well as the costume designer responsible for Purple Rain‘s iconic fashion looks, Marie France.
“I was the last person they saw for the audition [to find the Vanity replacement],” Apollonia told the crowd. “[Actress] Nia Peeples had just walked out of the room. I walked in and they asked me to take my shoes off. I thought, ‘wow, they’re into feet,” she said.
“Later I learned they were flying me to Minneapolis to meet Prince, who takes me out for a ride in a purple limo,” Apollonia added. “He was very reserved and shy.”
