Aretha Franklin’s ’30 Greatest Hits’ re-enters Billboard chart at number 7

ABC Photo Archives/ABC via Getty ImagesAretha Franklin‘s fans have been busy buying her music this past week, giving the late great Queen of Soul has her highest-charting album in 46 years.

Franklin’s 30 Greatest Hits compilation, originally released in 1985, re-enters the Billboard 200 chart this week at #7. This is her highest-charting album since her 1972 double-platinum, live gospel release, Amazing Grace, which also reached #7. Amazing Grace earned a Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, and remains the best-selling album of her career.

30 Greatest Hits sold 35,000 units for the week ending August 16, an increase of more than 13,000 percent from the previous week. The Queen has now scored a total of seven top 10 albums on the Billboard 200.

As previously reported, Franklin’s funeral will be held in her hometown of Detroit on August 31. The music legend’s homegoing service, which is limited to friends and family, will take place at the Greater Grace Temple in the Motor City.

However, there will be public viewings on August 28 and 29 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, also in Detroit, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time.

Franklin will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, along with her father, Rev. C.L. Franklin; brother Cecil Franklin; sisters Carolyn Franklin and Erma Franklin; and nephew, Thomas Garrett.

Franklin died Thursday at her home in Detroit from pancreatic cancer. She was 76.
