August Alsina reveals battle with liver disease: I’m sicker than ever

by

Image Group LA/ABCAugust Alsina has revealed that he is battling liver disease.

The “Song Cry” artist recently sat down with actress and friend Jada Pinkett Smith — in what he wrote on Instagram was “one of the most HEALING conversations” — to talk about his health.

In a video clip of the interview, he says, “The reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy.”

August also wrote in the caption, “I’m sicker than ever & having a hard time accepting what I feel & what the Doctors are saying is most true. After sitting down and talking with my fathers mother and sister..They explained to me that sickness & illness runs in my family. My father & grandfather both died of severe illness. but they were FIGHTERS & that’s all that matters.”

In 2014, the 24-year-old singer awoke from a medically induced three-day coma after collapsing on stage during a performance. He won Best New Artist at the BET Awards that same year.

Last year, August also shared with fans on social media that he was going blind in his left eye and losing vision in his right, due to an “eye disease.” The singer underwent surgery in order to preserve his remaining eyesight.
