Beyoncé may have won her case in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed against her by singer Ahmad Javon Lane, but Lane is now hinting at an appeal.
After a federal judge in New York City last week threw out the case over Bey’s “XO,” Lane’s rep, Domenick Nati of Nati Celebrity Services, issued a statement to Entertainment Tonight, saying the singer “is disappointed with the judge’s ruling and is considering fighting his case with an appeal.”
Lane originally claimed Bey’s 2013 hit was a rip-off of his own “XoXo,” a song he shared with one of her backup dancers in 2013. However, the judge dismissed the claim against Beyoncé, finding no “substantial similarity” between the works.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has been the defendant in a copyright infringement lawsuit: Hungarian performer Monika Miczura Juhasz sued in December over Bey’s hit “Drunk in Love,” claiming the song used a distorted sampling of her 1995 song “Bajba, Bajba Pelem” without permission.
