Almost directly after Madonna’s performance at the Billboard Awards, BET tweeted a promo clip for their own tribute on the upcoming BET Awards.
“Yeah, We saw that. Don’t worry. We Got You,” the promo declared.
The network’s response comes in the wake of some negative reaction to Madonna’s announced tribute before the performance, including a petition against it that gained nearly 9,000 supporters. Although Madge had a deep friendship with the late singer, Prince fans didn’t think the Material Girl had what it took to properly pay homage to the music legend.
So far, the official plans for BET’s Prince tribute has not been revealed. The BET Awards airs Sunday, June 26th.
