BET’s Black Girls Rock Airs Tonight

Photo by Gilbert Carrasquillo/FilmMagicThe stars will align during tonight’s airing of BET’s Black Girls Rock, the show designed to celebrate powerful African-American women in the entertainment industry.

The ceremony, which was taped last week at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, will see Rihanna being honored with the Rock Star Award. “That’s why tonight is so important to me because I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle,” Rih said during the taping. “I mean, that is it. Just be yourself, its the easiest thing to be. I love you guys, all girls rock, black girls we’re just on another level!

Additionally, Gladys Knight was presented with the Living Legend Award while other honorees include TV mogul Shonda Rhimes, The Walking Dead actress Danai Gurira, actress and activist Amandla Stenberg and Black Lives Matter founder Patrisse Cullors, among others.

In case you need another reason to tune in, there will be performances from Monica, Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, Andra Day, Marsha Ambrosius and Corinne Bailey Rae, as well as an appearance from Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.

Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the ceremony will air tonight, April 5, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET on BET.
