Beyonce’s Loved Ones Dedicate Songs in Honor of Her Birthday

by

Columbia RecordsFriday, September 4, marks Beyonce‘s 34th birthday. But what do her loved ones get for a woman that has everything? A touching song dedication, of course.

“In honor of her birthday, Beyoncé’s loved ones dedicate the songs that narrate their most cherished moments with her,” the post reads on Bey’s official website.

First up on the list is Bey’s mother, Tina Knowles, who selected Stephanie Mills‘ “Home.”

“One of both our favorite songs. I remember you singing at the Peoples’ Workshop when you were just nine years old. You brought the house down and got a standing ovation and all,” Tina recalls. “You did a spin and would up backwards and then — in what became ‘True Beyonce Fashion’ — you made it part of your act. The show must always go on!”

Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles, picked “Here I Go Again” by Smokey Robinson since it was the song he used to sing when Beyonce was still in her mother’s stomach. “After you were born, you would stop crying immediately when I sang it to you and your eyes would light up,” he says.

Bey’s sister, Solange, decided on Kim Burrell‘s “Holy Ghost,” since it represents “one of the best moments in my life.” Solo comments, “My sister, humming this with me softly, being the calming beautiful spirit she is, making everything that resided in that moment filled with love.”

Beyonce’s husband, Jay Z, picked “Yellow” by Coldplay, saying it reminds him of their vacations. “So many legendary nights. It represents vulnerability; its us in our own world, away from work and totally lost in love. ‘For you, I’ll bleed myself dry.'”

Even Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy, picked out a song: “Party of Your World” by Jodi Benson from the Little Mermaid.  “Mommy you sung this to me all the time,” baby Blue commented. “Happy Birthday, Mommy!”

Others who selected tribute songs include Beyonce’s Destiny Child band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams; her mother-in-law, Gloria Carter; her cousin, Angie Beyince; her nephew, Juelz Smith; brother-in-law Alan Ferguson; and Kelly’s husband, Tim Witherspoon.

Beyonce will celebrate her 34th birthday Saturday by headlining at her husband’s Made In America Festival on Saturday in Philadelphia.
