ABC/Fred WatkinsMary J. Blige is getting down with the “boom kack.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has tapped Blige to producer new music drama series inspired by the life of famed choreographer Laurieann Gibson.
The series, called 8 Count, will follow a young choreographer who decides to invest in a struggling singer as a way to hopefully resurrect her “damaged reputation” in the music/dance world.
Gibson will co-executive produce the drama alongside Blige, who’s also set to serve as a music adviser on the project.
Queen Sugar‘s Erika L. Johnson will reportedly write the script.
Gibson is one of the most notable choreographers in the industry, creating routines for major artists like Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé.
She also advised on the shows Making the Band and Dance Moms.
On other Blige news, she’ll appear in the upcoming Netflix film Mudbound, debuting November 17.
