Boston To Remove Statue Of Slave Kneeling Before Lincoln

by

A controversial statue of Abraham Lincoln will be removed from the Boston’s Park Square. The Emancipation Memorial has long been criticized for its portrayal of an enslaved man kneeling in front of Lincoln.  The monument is a copy of an identical one in Washington, D.C. and has been there since 1879. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says that residents are “uncomfortable with this statue, and its reductive representation of the Black man’s role in the abolitionist movement”. Do you agree that this statue is problematic?  How do you feel in general about removing old statues and monuments?
