Boyz II Men’s Wanyá Morris Grabs First Place with Nearly Perfect Performance on Dancing with the Stars

by

ABC/Adam TaylorAfter a disappointing outing last week, Boyz II Men‘s Wanyá Morris was back on top with a nearly perfect performance on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars.

Morris and his pro partner Lindsay Arnold earned a score of 29 out of a possible thirty, good for a first-place finish.

Monday was “Famous Dances Night,” where each of the nine remaining stars recreated dance routines from popular movies, music videos and live performances. Wanyá and Arnold performed a jazz routine to “Bye Bye Bye” from ‘NSYNC’s MTV Video Music Awards performance. Judge Bruno Tonlioni called Morris’ dance moves “tight and polished,” adding, “It was pop in its most pure and brilliant form.” Carrie Ann Inaba declared, “This boy is on fire! You brought the stuff. You brought the dirty, sexy … damn that was good.” Len Goodman even congratulated him, saying, “You’ve just taken a great step forward towards the finals.”

‘NSYNC member Joey Fatone — who’s friends with Morris — was waiting backstage with bandmate Lance Bass to greet the 42-year-old boy band singer. “It was like a dream come true, watching one of the guys from Boyz II Men perform ‘NSYNC,” said Fatone. “We looked up to you guys. It was amazing.”

Football legend Doug Flutie and his partner Karina Smirnoff had the night’s lowest score, with 21, and were eliminated from the competition.
