by

Al Pereira/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty ImagesThe Cannes Film Festival is creating a special tribute to honor Prince,  a festival representative tells Billboard.

“There will be a tribute to Prince, but [we have] no more information right now,” the rep said.

The music icon has had a long history in film and entertainment, winning an Oscar in 1984 for his music in Purple Rain and making a contribution to a number of movie and TV show soundtracks, notably Tim Burton’s Batman, Happy Feet, and Spike Lee’s Girl 6,  which was screened in Cannes’ “Un Certain Regard” section.

This year’s Cannes festival runs May 11 through May 22. For more information on the festival and films being screening go to the festival’s website.
