Chaka Khan to Perform at NYC Charity Concert Next Month Honoring Late Sax Player Michael Brecker

Credit: Tim FieldingChaka Khan is among the stars who will perform at a special benefit concert honoring late jazz sax player Michael Brecker on January 25 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.  

The show, called “The Nearness of You,” will raise funds in support of cancer research at New York’s Columbia University Medical Center.

The show’s lineup also features Grammy-winning jazz artists Wynton Marsalis and Diana Krall, while other special guests will be announced soon.

Will Lee, longtime bassist of The Late Show with David Letterman band, will serve as the evening’s music director.

Actor Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee Furness will host a post-concert reception.

Tickets for “The Nearness of You” can be purchased online at Jazz.org, in person at the Jazz at Lincoln Center box office or by calling Center Charge at 212-721-6500.  

The concert will be held in The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall at 7:30 p.m. ET.

During his long career, Brecker played on albums by dozens of well-known artists, including Billy JoelJoni MitchellSteely DanJames TaylorTodd RundgrenAerosmithDire Straits and Frank Sinatra. He died in 2007 at the age of 57 from complications of leukemia.
