Chris Brown Arraigned on Misdemeanor Assault Charge in Washington, D.C.

by

RCA RecordsChris Brown and his bodyguard, Chris Hollosy, were arraigned on a single count of misdemeanor assault in Washington, D.C., on Monday. T he charge stemmed from an incident that occurred in the early morning hours Sunday in front of a hotel in the city.

The charge was reduced from the count of felony assault that Brown initially faced. The pair were released on their own recognizance after Chris pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate judge Karen Howze ordered Brown to report in person to his probation officer in California within 48 hours.  Brown remains on probation stemming from a 2009 domestic violence incident involving his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

In addition, both Brown and Hollosy were ordered to stay 100 yards from the alleged victim, Parker Adams.  The pair are due back in D.C. Superior Court on November 25 at 10 a.m.

Brown and Hollosy were arrested Sunday morning outside the W Hotel after they allegedly punched Adams in the face after he tried to crowd into a photo of the singer and two women. Brown’s camp, however, claims Adams tried to climb aboard the singer’s tour bus.

Outside the court, the singer’s attorney told the press, “Christopher Brown committed no crime. We understand that his security staff acted to protect Mr. Brown and his property as he was authorized to do under District of Colombia law. We are confident that Mr. Brown will be exonerated of any wrongdoing.”

In February of 2009, Brown turned himself into the Los Angeles Police Department for allegedly attacking Rihanna. He then accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years’ formal probation and domestic violence counseling.

TMZ is reporting the Los Angeles County Probation Department has launched an investigation into the D.C. case to determine whether Chris violated his probation in the Rihanna incident.
