Everyone seems to be focused on lack of diversity with this year’s Academy Awards, including Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee. However, Chris Brown and Young Jeezy are raising awareness on a seemingly more important issue: the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

“WE HAVE TO SAVE OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN! #Flint I hope people start TO SEE. HOW LONG ARE WE GONNA BE STUPID ON PURPOSE?” Brown tweeted.

Jeezy also expressed his concerns: “Why we worried about the Oscars? We need to be worried about what’s going on in Flint and Chicago. Mlk didn’t die for shows and trophies.”

As previously reported, President Obama has declared a federal emergency in the city, where the residents haven’t had clean water to drink since 2014.   In April of that year, the city started drawing its water from the Flint River in a move that resulted in increased levels of lead in the city’s drinking water. The water has since been linked to a number of serious illnesses, and this past September, a group of doctors urged the city to stop using the Flint River after finding high levels of lead in the blood of children.
