Mother’s Day will be bitter sweet for Cissy Houston, who has remained strong following the tragic death of her daughter, legendary singer Whitney Houston, in 2012. In an interview with Ebony magazine, Cissy recalls her fondest memories of the woman commonly referred to as “The Voice.”
When asked what she wishes people knew about Whitney, Cissy tells the pulication: “That I was satisfied with my daughter.”
“She was my greatest love,” Cissy continues. “Everybody gets off track sometimes. That doesn’t mean it’s the end world all the time. She was a very good person and she had a very good heart. She was my baby.”
Cissy adds that her daughter’s passing was “God’s work” and it wasn’t something that she could “interfere in.” She says Whitney “made a lot of difference in this world. She grew tall while she was living. She made me very proud. That’s all I can say.”
Still, dealing with her passing has been difficult. “I still think about her and I cry. After I cry, I feel all right. I cry a lot,” Cissy says. “She was a good girl and a kind person.”
In related news, Houston is scheduled to appear at McDonald’s Gospelfest 2014, “Women Who Worship” Mother’s Day Experience today, May 10, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. She will be joined by Yolanda Adams, CeCe Winans, The Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar and Kim Burrell among others.
