In a partnership with Paper, the NFL star stepped in as guest editor for the magazine’s latest issue where he highlighted his campaign that fights against systemic injustice and police brutality.

“I was invited by @papermagazine to showcase the work we’ve been doing with @yourrightscamp,” Kaepernick tweeted. “We curated this issue highlighting those that have also been taking action in their respective spaces surrounding our Know Your Rights 10 Points. Excited to share this with you!”

In the feature, Kaepernick uses an all-star line up of talent that includes Ava DuVernayThe Exonerated 5Yara ShahidiIndya MooreDr. Angela DavisTaraji P. Henson, NFL player Eric Reidand Kaepernick’s girlfriend Nessa to speak on topics that focused on civil rights.

Some of those topics include: “You Have the Right To Be Free,” “You Have the Right To Be Safe,” “You Have the Right To Be Healthy,” “You Have the Right To Be Alive,” and DuVernay’s “You Have the Right to Be Trusted.”

I think history leads to a lack of trust,” said DuVernay in her feature. “I think the idea that Black and Brown people are supposed to be patiently trusting of power structures and people who represent those power structures — police, for example; judges, for example — without taking into account the history that we’ve experienced is disingenuous. Our history demands that you have a lack of trust in order to even have the chance to survive.”

The Know Your Rights program has held workshops and camps in New York City, New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago, Oakland and Miami.
