Cuba Gooding’s Son Says He’s Partly Responsible for His Dad’s Oscar! Whaaat!?

by

Acting is in the blood for the offspring of Oscar winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr.   Gooding’s son Mason Gooding  has a role a new flick that opened in theaters Friday called Booksmart.  The movie had its world premiere at SXSW back in March.   It’s a “A coming-of-age comedy, an directed by Olivia Wilde (in her directorial debut).

Mason, (pictured right)  plays the roll of ‘Nick’ in the film that stars Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Lisa Kudrow, and Jason Sudeikis, among others.  It follows two graduating high school girls who decide to break all the rules and party on their last day of classes.

Mason told BET that he’s learned a lot from his award wining dad who won an Oscar for his role in Jerry McQuire.  The film was released a month after the young Gooding was born. He jokes that he had a role in his father winning that coveted award.

“Even though technically he won the Oscar in ’97, I like to think I had some hand in that. He always said that before he got Jerry Maguire [that he] related to the character so much because and had a baby on the way, which was me, and it led up to the perfect time and atmosphere to get the role. All the stars lined up, making it what it was. Here’s hoping that same good luck rubs off on me.”

Mason first acting role was on HBO’s Ballers in 2018, in which he played a surfer.   He talks about the acting gig in Ballers alongside Dwayne Johnson.
