D.C. Judge Denies Chris Brown Request to Dismiss Assault Case

by

RCA RecordsA Washington, D.C. judge on Monday denied a request by Chris Brown‘s attorney to drop misdemeanor assault charges against him.

The Washington Post reports that Superior Court Judge Patricia A. Wynn didn’t buy the argument by Brown’s attorneys that prosecutors acted inappropriately when they used a grand jury to hear witness testimony in preparation for Brown’s April 17 trial, because it’s a misdemeanor case.  Brown and his bodyguard are accused of punching a man outside a Washington hotel last October.

A U.S. Marshals source told ABC News Monday night that Chris has been booked into a jail facility in the D.C. vicinity.

The singer was transported earlier in the day from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. in the custody of U.S. marshals after an L.A. judge ordered his extradition last week, following Brown’s expulsion from an inpatient rehab center.  Brown was undergoing anger management counseling as a condition of his ongoing parole for his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, when he allegedly violated the facility’s rules.  He was ordered jailed as a result and faces a probation violation hearing later this month.
