Dallas (KRNB) – A Dallas Police office was arrested and booked into Kaufman County Jail on a charge of manslaughter this evening around 7:30pm in connection with the shooting of a man in his Dallas apartment late Thursday night according to records available online. She posted 300,000 bond and is expected to be released.
Amber Guyger, a 4-year veteran of the DPD allegedly fired a fatal shot at 26-year old Botham Shem Jean in his own apartment at South Side Flats, just two blocks from Dallas Police Headquarters, after Guyger says she entered it by mistake, thinking it was her own.
Guyger had just gotten off he shift, and had walked two blocks to the apartment building before the incident occurred.
It’s unclear exactly what led to the shooting.
Jean, was remembered as an upstanding young man and ’emerging leader’ in the city by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.
His heart-broken family flew in from his native St. Lucia in hopes of seeking justice for their loved one.
Meantime, according to the family attorney Lee Merritt, a memorial service is planned for Thursday, before Jean’s remains are returned to St. Lucia.
We are planning homegoing services for Thursday before #BothamJean’s remains are returned to St. Lucia. This all will be very costly for the family. We appreciate your support.https://t.co/7QcpzHzPy3

Our office has been retained to represent the estate of #BothamShemJean. Our first & foremost priority will be to ensure justice is served for this family. That includes holding Amber Guyger accountable for her crimes as well as ID’ing all responsible for enabling this incident. pic.twitter.com/p9tJAiJZOi
