Darren CraigSaint Bodhi is like a breath of fresh air when it comes the dominating presence of female artists in the music industry. The Def Jam signee, who’s widely known for tracks like “FlowerChild” and “Blessed,” landed her first Grammy nomination for writing LeCrae‘s “Sunday Morning” duet with Kirk Franklin.
“It’s epic. I did not know that is was coming,” Bodhi tells ABC Audio of the Grammy nod. “I literally had wrote that record for another artist and it ended up funneling through and getting to LeCrae and Kirk Franklin, which was really, really dope.”
After working with artists like A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith and Kevin Gates, Saint Bodhi drew fans to her personally with her debut offering, Mad World, last October, her first release with Def Jam.
“I love Def Jam, I feel like they’re my family. It’s cool to be signed to a label, but it’s not something that I thought was going to happen,” Bodhi says. “You know, you kind of chase that dream your whole life and then all of a sudden, boom, you have all these people believing in you. So that’s pretty wicked. It’s a good feeling.”
Last week. Saint Bodhi released her first Mad World podtape on DatPiff, where the 28-year-old discusses her debut album with host and music journalist Shirley Ju. To accompany its release, Bodhi also dropped a “Mad World freestyle,” where she raps about her demons and taking over the music industry.
“See y’all don’t move effectively/ I try to stay humble let y’all [artists] fumble /y’all don’t really want the trouble I swear,” Bodhi raps.
