Photo Courtesy of UMeThe Supremes‘ historic ninth studio album, The Supremes A’ Go-Go, was the legendary Motown group’s first chart-topping album. Now it’s the subject of a deluxe reissue set to hit stores on April 28.
The two-CD collection will feature mono and stereo mixes of the 12-track album, as well as a variety of bonus tracks, alternate mixes and versions, outtakes and more.
Released in August 1966, The Supremes A’ Go-Go featured the chart-topping smash “You Can’t Hurry Love” and the #9 hit “Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart,” as well as covers of such popular songs as “Baby I Need Your Loving,” “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “Money (That’s What I Want)” and “Hang On Sloopy.”
Not only was it The Supremes’ first #1 album, it was the first album ever by an all-female group to top the Billboard 200.
The extra tracks featured on the deluxe reissue include covers of hits by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Tom Jones, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandellas, The Four Tops, Jimmy Ruffin and Bob Dylan.
Also featured are alternate mixes of “Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart” and a duet with The Four Tops on the tune “Shake Me, Wake Me” (When It’s Over).”
The reissue comes packaged with two 24-page booklets, one featuring details about the making of the album, rare photos and more, and the second recreating The Supremes’ 1966 tour book.
