Diana Ross to Receive Prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom

Ida Mae AstuteDiana Ross is among one of 21 superstars in the worlds of music, television, film and sports chosen to receive the country’s highest civilian award — the Presidential Medal of Freedom.   

President Barack Obama will present Ross, along with fellow future recipients including Kareem Abdul-JabbarMichael Jordan and veteran Hollywood actress Cicely Tyson, with her medal at the White House on November 22.  

The ceremony will be streamed live at WhiteHouse.gov/live.

In an official statement President Obama said, “The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not just our nation’s highest civilian honor — it’s a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to chance this country for the better.” 

“From scientists, philanthropists, and public servants to activists, athletes, and artists, these 21 individuals have helped push American forward, inspiring millions of people around the world along the way,” he added.
