Three videos from Beyonce‘s latest visual album, “Grown Woman,” “Partition,” and “***Flawless,” were filmed by famed director Jake Nava, who is explaining how the concepts came together in an interview with Fuse.

After working 12 years with the diva, Nava has seen her evolve creatively, especially in her racey “Partition” clip. “I think Beyonce has a really good instinct for how she wants to be presented,” says Jake. Now more than ever she’s famous for becoming a mom [but] that doesn’t stop you from being the sexiest woman you can be.”

While filming in Paris for “Partition,” Nava revealed that he had limited time to shoot Jay Z‘s cameo scenes. The rapper actually needed a police escort so he could take a helicopter back to London for his tour.

In the “Grown Woman” video, Jake reveals all of the footage of Beyonce as a teen was shot in the present, adding that the costumes and art direction allowed the footage to seem vintage.  “What was amazing about those scenes is that she just looks so young in them, and her ability to act as she would of at that age, is really what brought those scenes to life,” he says.

As for the “***Flawless” visual, Jake explained the video was inspired by certain English clubs and parties in the 1980’s where ska fans and punks danced together, and it was shot by hand because “sometimes when things are planned, they can be less exciting to watch.”

So what keeps Nava inspired to continue working with Bey? “She’s still clearly one of the most interesting and talented artists in the world,” he says.
