Does The Punishment Fit The Crime

by

The Guardian reports an 18-year-old Baltimore protester who turned himself in for damaging city property is being held on $500,000 bond.

The mother of Allen Bullock said, “You gave my son $500,000 bail for breaking the police window and you gave these cops nothing… it’s not right!”

Bullock’s parents told him to turn himself in after they saw him damaging a police cruiser on TV and they now feel like the powers that be “are making an example of him – and it is not right.”

Photos and video of rioters damaging property, buildings and vehicles, have become iconic images of the unrest surrounding the protest of Freddie Gray’s death while in police custody in Baltimore.

The Guardian also reported that Allen Bullock willingly went into the juvenile justice center with his stepdad after his parents told him to “do the right thing.”

He hasn’t been home since and is charged with eight criminal counts, including property damage and rioting.

Do you think the charges (and bail) fit the crime?
