Dr. Bernice King says Regina King is blazing trails on milestone birthday shared with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

by

ABC/Rick RowellDr. Bernice King is sending actress Regina King some major love for her 50th birthday Friday.

“So I heard that it’s this King’s birthday, too,” Dr. King tweeted, noting that Regina and her father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., share a January 15 birth date.

“Happy birthday, @ReginaKing,” she continued. “You are blazing trails. Thank you.”

While Regina has kept pretty quiet on socials today — so far — the actress has plenty to celebrate. In addition to a long career starring in classics like John Singleton’s Poetic Justice and Boyz in the Hood and, more recently, If Beale Street Could Talk and Watchmen, King already has one Oscar and four Emmys under her belt. She’s also directed over 10 episodes for various shows, and made her film directorial debut with One Night in Miami, which is now available on Amazon Prime.

After being named one of People magazine’s People of the Year in 2020, King said her recent success made her “feel like this is the path I was supposed to be on.”

“I have a little more power now, in my choices, and in my ability to amplify a message,” she told People. “I have things I’m very passionate about. And I feel very lucky to be able to use my art and my voice collectively.”

Happy birthday, Regina!
