Republic RecordsAfter Drake’s father claimed in a radio interview that the rapper lied about their relationship in order to sell records, the Champagne Papi has responded and denies the accusation.
Dennis Graham said in a radio interview with Nick Cannon that his son admitted to him that lyrics about him being an absentee father were recorded with the purpose of increasing sales.
“I have always been with Drake,” Graham told Cannon, according to Billboard. “I said, ‘Drake, why are you saying all of this different stuff about me, man? This is not cool.’ And he goes, ‘Dad, it sells records.”
The four-time Grammy winner responded in an Instagram story that his father’s words have no credibility.
“Woke up today so hurt, man. My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him,” Drizzy wrote, as captured by The Shade Room. “It’s sad when family gets like this, but what can we really do? That’s the people we are stuck with. Every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
Drake has referenced in his music the fact that his parents divorced when he was five years old. The “In My Feelings” rapper remained with his mother in Toronto where he was born, while his father moved back to Memphis. Following the divorce, Drake spent summers with his father in Memphis.
Graham is a drummer who played with rock and roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, and he appeared on the cover of Drake’s 2017 mixtape, More Life.
