Ella Mai to perform Not Another Love Song on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ tonight

by

Brandon DayPrepare to be in your feelings: Ella Mai is back.

Last week, the British singer debuted her new single, “Not Another Love Song” during Rihanna‘s Savage x Fenty Vol. 2 show. The song is about grappling with the idea of being in love and wanting to admit it.

The track speaks to Ella’s personal experiences, as she comes into her own and learns more about navigating love, life, and her music career.

“It was definitely something that I was going through, but it’s also something I’ve been through many times before,” Ella told POPSUGAR. “Even though at the time, it was specific to that, I could draw from how I felt before in that same situation and how it differed or how it was similar.”

Ella said it was “a fun process” to work for the first time with Grammy-nominated producers Boi-1da and Jahaan Sweet on the “special” song, which was co-written by Varren Wade, who also co-wrote her hit single, “Trip.”

After her successful self-titled debut in 2018, the 25-year-old songstress is preparing to release her sophomore album. She said her “main goal’ is to make fans feel exactly the way she felt when she recorded it.

“A lot of my fans are young women that are the same age as me, so I want them to feel like they have someone who can speak for them if they don’t feel like they have a voice, or have someone they can relate to,” Ella said.

“I love the music that I’ve been making. I feel really connected to it, so, hopefully, people will feel the same way,” she added.

Catch Ella’s first live television performance of “Not Another Love Song” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight on CBS.
