by

Karwai Tang/WireImageEmeli Sandé knows a thing or two about singing at big sports events: She performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics in London.   Now she’s been tapped to sing at the Laureus World Sports Awards, which honor the highest-achieving athletes across all sports.

The event will take place in Monaco on February 27, and will be hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch.  Among this year’s nominees: tennis stars Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, skier Mikaela Shiffin, swimmer Katie Ledecky, the Golden State Warriors, the New England Patriots and the Real Madrid soccer team.

In a statement, the “Next to Me” singer says, “Sport, at any level is inspirational. Having…been motivated by the athletes at the London 2012 Olympics, I’m excited to get on stage to sing for sports stars around the world at next week’s Laureus World Sports Awards.”

She adds, “It’s going to be a special evening of celebration and I can’t wait!”
