Eminem gives surprise performance of Lose Yourself at the Oscars

by

ABC/ARTURO HOLMESEminem took the stage with a surprise performance at the Academy Awards last night.

It all went down after Lin-Manuel Miranda introduced a montage for Best Soundtrack. After snippets of the music scenes from some of the most iconic films played, the rapper appeared on stage at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood — shocking everyone.

Eminem performed his song “Lose Yourself” from the 2002 film based on his life, 8 Mile, as members of the audience enthusiastically rapped along.

The audience gave him a standing ovation at the end of the performance.

The song won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Original Song, but he refused to perform the song because it would have to be censored.

After the performance, Eminem tweeted, “Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me @TheAcademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.”
