En Vogue celebrates resilience on new track, promises signature vocals on new album

by

ABC/Heidi GutmanTwenty-seven years ago En Vogue burst onto the music scene with their groundbreaking debut album, Born to Sing.

They disappeared from the spotlight after their sixth album, Soul Flower, but now the group is back in action with a new song that sums up how they feel these days: “I’m Good.”

Current members Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron and Rhona Bennett tell ABC Radio that their new track is “about resilience and celebrating that.”

They also promise fans that their forthcoming seventh album, Electric Cafe, will contain a mix of their “signature En Vogue harmonies” with some surprising new sounds.

“We got different subject matter, but it’s also got sort of a universal feel to it. We’ve got several different vibes and styles of music,” says Terry.

While the group looks forward to the release of Electric Cafe, original members Terry and Cindy will never forget the dizzying success of Born to Sing, the first single “Hold On,” and how both changed their lives forever.

Terry says, “‘Hold On'” took off and just became a platinum record so fast and it’s not that we were not expecting it or hoping for it, but it just happened so fast.”

“Everything was coming our way and we were just trying to grab a hold of it and just take it all, just go with it and it was really exhilarating…a lot of fun,” she adds.

You can catch En Vogue on tour beginning May 13 at the Jacksonville Funk Fest in Jacksonville, Florida. For more information on tickets, visit envoguemusic.com.
