Even with success, Xscape singer Kandi Burruss says doesn’t want to feel like I’ve made it

by

Miller MobleyXscape singer and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss has just landed her very first Essence magazine cover.

But in the mag’s new issue, which hits newsstands this week, she says that she doesn’t “ever want to feel like I’ve made it.”

“When people feel like they’ve made it, they’re on the first step to falling off,” Kandi explains.

Kandi, who reunited with Xscape this year, also talks about how fickle the music industry is.

“It’s a very humbling moment when your songs aren’t on the radio anymore. I didn’t appreciate what that success was when we had it,” she admits.

“I remember feeling like, when things get back the way I want them to be, I will never take anything for granted again.”

Also in the cover story, Kandi looks back on the many instances where she nearly walked away from Real Housewives of Atlanta, telling Essence, “I honestly had a lot of times when I just cried. There were moments when I really wanted to say, ‘You know what? I’m done with this!'”

Burruss joined the show in 2009, in its second season in 2009, and has remained a part of its cast ever since.

You can read more of Kandi’s interview when the October issue of Essence arrives on newsstands Friday, September 22.
