Marc BaptisteJanelle Monáe is making her film debut in the new indie movie, Moonlight, that is set to hit theaters in October, and you can see her now in a new trailer for the film streaming on YouTube.
Moonlight, which is based on the Tarell McCraney play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, chronicles the life of a Miami teenager named Chiron as he grapples with his sexuality and deals with a complicated home life. The film, which is told in three parts, stars Naomi Harris, Andre Holland, Mahershala Ali and Monáe, and includes Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhondes and Alex R. Hibbert who will play Chiron at the various stages of his life.
Moonlight will premiere at the Toronto and New York film festivals before opening in theaters on October 21.
