David IckesKenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, along with Patti LaBelle, each received the 2016 Marian Anderson Award last night at Philadelphia’s famed Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
This year marks the first in which multiple artists were honored with the prestigious award, named in memory of the legendary contralto singer and former Philadelphian, Marian Anderson.
The Philadelphia International Records co-founders, “Godmother of Soul” and other attendees were treated to a night of performances from various artists including Ledisi, The Three Degrees — whose career includes many Gamble & Huff-produced hits such as “When Will I See You Again” — and original lead vocalist of Sister Sledge, Kathy Sledge.
