Michael Tran/FilmMagicDuring an interview at Aretha Franklin‘s funeral service in Detroit today, Gladys Knight appeared to reveal that she is battling cancer, but a rep for Knight insists that the Motown legend is not sick.
“She’s healthy,” Knight publicist Javier Delgado tells the Detroit Free Press. “Someone must have misinterpreted.”
In the interview, Gladys recalls the last time she spoke with Aretha, who passed away on August 16 from pancreatic cancer, and tells a reporter that “at that time, we shared the fact that we had the same disease.”
Knight reflected on mortality during an interview this past Monday with Us Weekly, although the comments were made as she was speaking about Franklin’s recent passing.
“I mean, we have absolutely no control over [when we die],” Gladys said. “The Lord tells us where we are going and tells us when we are coming. So I’m not overly upset about it, and he knows how much each one of us can bear, and he calls us home with those things in mind.”
