Heather Wines/CBSJennifer Hudson is giving us a sneak peek at her role as Shug Avery in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple.
In a new Facebook video for the production, Hudson and co-star Cynthia Erivo stand inside a recording booth and perform the title song. Their performance is interspersed with footage from the show.
“[It’s] a timeless piece of American culture,” Hudson recently told People of The Color Purple. “The story holds a special place in my heart because, in part, it’s so honest. All of the characters are true to who they are. Each individual is an integral part of the message and it brings a complex emotion that sticks with the audience.”
The show, which opens in December, will mark Hudson’s Broadway debut.
