Maarten de Boer/Contour Idris Elba has announced the release date for his highly anticipated father-son drama Concrete Cowboys.

On Instagram on Monday, Elba shared the film’s spring premiere date.

Concrete Cowboy coming to Netflix April 2,” he captioned the image.”You are who you ride with.”

Adapted from the novel Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri and directed by Ricky StraubConcrete Cowboy stars Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin as a troubled teen who spends the summer in North Philadelphia learning about the urban cowboy subculture from his estranged father, played by Elba.

For Elba, being a part of the film was a rare opportunity to tell a different kind of Black story.

“For a long time, you know, there’s been, like, a real sort of mis-telling of history around Black people and horses and cowboys and whatnot,” Elba told Variety. “It feels really apt to be able to tell a part of history that’s been definitely buried, and in the case of Concrete Cowboy, that history is right now.”

The feature, which also stars Jharrel Jerome and Lorraine Toussaint, is the latest project from the U.K. actor. Elba is also set to star another Netflix cowboy film, The Harder They Fall, alongside Lakeith Stanfield, Regina King, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo and Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors.
