Nas; ABC/Randy HolmesKelis‘ latest allegation against her ex-husband Nas isn’t in reference to their current custody battle over their nine-year-old son, Knight, but rather something more shocking.
The “Milkshake” singer tells Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee that she suffered both mental and physical abuse from the rapper.
In a clip of her video interview with Lee, Kelis recalls the aftermath after an alleged past incident between her and Nas, saying, “Something reminded me of Rihanna. I remember so clearly when the pictures came out. With that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown [Brown’s assault against Rihanna in 2009] and the only way I can describe it was like double-dutch [jump rope].”
“I felt like, ‘Do I jump in? Do I say it?’ ‘Cause I had bruises all over my body at that time.”
Kelis says the reason she’s never mentioned these allegations before because she’s “really private.”
“I don’t want people in my business,” she continues.
“I felt like, ‘This is my partner. I chose this. We’re gonna do this. We’re gonna make it work.’ I stayed for years after that and just you keep it moving.”
Kelis adds, “I’m not frail. I’m not scared…I’m not weak.”
Kelis and Nas married in 2005 and divorced in 2010, one year after Knight was born.
As reported in March, the former couple appeared to have reached a custody agreement for Knight.
However, TMZ reported in April that Nas filed legal documents asking a judge to “penalize” Kelis because she wanted to spend the Passover holiday with Knight, even though it was Nas’ weekend to watch his son.
