Issa Rae talks ‘Insecure’ season 4, new ventures and her relationship status

by

HBO/Anne Marie FoxIssa Rae is making 2020 her year — even if the world ain’t ready for it.

As Refinery29′s digital cover girl, Rae tells the outlet that season 4 of Insecure “is going to be lit.”

“There’s nothing I can do about what people say about the show or what they think about the show; all I can do is just tell the story that I want to tell,” she said. “If it’s not for you, then it’s just not for you. Move on.”

In addition to being unapologetic about her hit HBO show, Rae is staying busy with her big-screen projects, including the romantic comedy The Lovebirds, which had its April 3 release date pushed back due to COVID-19 coronavirus.  Rae also has her own record label, Raedio, and a new coffee shop in Inglewood, CA called Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen.

“This moment feels like a lot of opportunities are being presented to me and it is just about taking advantage of them and making the right decisions,” she said.

With all that she has currently going on, it’s no surprise that Rae doesn’t have a lot of down time — not even for a new “boo.”

“I don’t have a public boo — or a private boo,” she said.  She also revealed that she’s never dated outside her race.

“I have never dated a white person,” she admits. “But my friends are in interracial relationships and it bothers me that whenever interracial relationships are depicted on screen, they are with just white people. It’s another way media in general centers [on] whiteness.”
