ABC/Rick Rowell Janelle Monáe stars in her second season of Amazon’s mystery thriller Homecoming.
During an interview with Variety, the singer and actress said the film is “even more relevant now,” given its demonic twist about “greed and capitalism over the well-being of humanity and humans.”
The only reason she came back for season two was because of her character’s relational queer experience, with touches on interracial dating.
“To have a Black woman and an Asian woman in a relationship on TV is the type of representation that we need,” Monáe told Variety.
Janelle Monáe was highlighted in Variety’s annual Power of Women issue during Pride Month, for using her platform to support worthy causes.
She added, “being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community is an honor.”
Janelle Monáe is set to perform at New York City virtual Pride event on June 26. This also marks her first time performing at a Pride event since she identified herself as a “queer black woman” during a 2018 Rolling Stone interview.
